The Vision
Ms. Zuñiga wanted to move beyond traditional instruction and create a culturally sustaining, hands-on experience. With her Inspire the Future grant, she brought "Weaving Wisdom" to life — a unique unit connecting literacy, mathematics, art, history, and social-emotional learning. Students honored their identities and family stories, creating a powerful sense of belonging within the school community.
Where the Magic Happened
While the entire class thrived, the true magic of the grant was seen in the growth of students with high academic, behavioral, and fine motor challenges. Through the physical act of building and weaving, traditional academic barriers melted away.
A Culture of Perseverance
Beyond the artwork, the grant instilled an emotional resilience that will stay with these students forever. Ms. Zuñiga listened as her students began cheering themselves on: "We are going to make mistakes, and it is ok. It might not be easy at first, but we can do it. Everything has a solution."
